Your Privacy
Updated August 20, 2019
Please read this privacy policy carefully as it will help you make informed decisions about sharing your personal information with us.
General Statement: Although information is automatically collected by the various apps I use to run the website, I want you to know that there is no underhanded intention regarding collecting or using your information. I list here how we use your information. I do not advertise, so no information goes to advertisers and with some exceptions listed below, I do not analyze your information, except in the aggregate. I might occasionally review Google Analytics to determine how many people are reading a given page on the site at a given time, and what geographic region in the world they are from. This information is aggregate only, i.e., number of clicks, not individual. I also will use your email address to send you an email if you have posted on the site and I feel the need to communicate with you about your posting, which is rare, or if we have set up a private reading or you signed up for a class. The remainder of this privacy statement describes the data that the website applications collect.
If you sign up for the Forum, no one sees your name or email address except us, unless you provide that information in a public post that you have submitted. They only see the alias you designate which may or may not be your actual name. If you use your actual name as your alias or in a signature that is displayed publicly on the site, then the public does see that information. The one exception is that if someone attempts to post troll-like content that (e.g., threats, harassment, inappropriate content) or sends me emails via the contact form that I find to be threatening, harassing, seem to be coming from a bot, or makes me uncomfortable, I may ask my website hosts or developers to block the originator of those posts or emails, and the host will look up the information you have provided to do so. The website host and the developers are the only ones besides myself who I give access to the information you provide. If I at some point I decide to use others to help me operate the website, then they too, as my agents and/or service people, will have access to the information you provide, although they are instructed to use it only in accordance with the privacy policy listed here. — Jeanne Mayell

The Information This Website and Jeanne Mayell collects:
- Readers of this site: We use Google Analytics to track the aggregate use of this website. For each person who reads the site, we use the following information that Google collects and tabulates in the aggregate (aggregate means we see overall numbers of clicks, not you specifically): geographic location, whether the clicks are coming from new or repeat readers, what pages they read, how they move around on the website, search engine used, type of device used, and what people were searching for when they came to my website. There may be more information that Google Analytics collects that we do not use. To find out what Google collects, go to Google Analytics. We do not share this information with anyone except our own site administrators. As long as the website is ad-free, then your use of this website is not shared with advertisers. This site has been ad-free since its inception.
- If you post comments on the website: The WordPress application that we use collects the following information:: your name, email, alias, and IP address, and comments you post. I only use this information to answer the reader’s questions or requests for help posting on the website or to communicate with a reader when I feel it is necessary, but not for advertising or any other purposes. If someone is banned from using the website, I use this information to block their use. The Forum uses an application called Wpforo.com that collects for my website your name, alias, email address, number of posts, and dates of posts, and can list out all of the posts you made. The site itself makes your posts available to the public, including the number and listing of your posts according to the alias you use. I do not share your actual name, email address or IP address with anyone except as noted above. We may use your information to contact you via email if we feel it is necessary to notify you about something you have asked Jeanne in a post or to reach out to respond to something you have posted which we do not feel is appropriate to respond to you publicly. We do not share this information with anyone except our own administrators for the purpose of servicing the website. As of this 8/20/19, no one except Jeanne Mayell and her developers and website host have access to your membership information.
- People who sign up for a class: If you pay via PayPal, then we have access to the information PayPal collects on you which is required by PayPal and/or the credit card company you use: your name, address, email address, and how much you paid for a service or donation, and dates. How we use this information: We use your name and email address to thank you, and to send information to you about the class or future classes or to provide a better teaching or website experience for you. We do not share this information with others.
- If you sign up for a private appointment, you can pay via PayPal or directly to Jeanne Mayell, using a credit card. If you pay Jeanne directly she collects your name, billing address, email address and phone number–all information required by the credit card company. Your billing address (Street or PO Box number and zip code) are required by the credit card company. We do not use this information for any other purpose, nor do we share this information other than to the credit card company.
- If you use PayPal to pay for a service or to donate to the website: please refer to their (Paypal) privacy policy to learn what they collect. I receive from them the following: your name, address, IP address, email address, what you bought and when you paid, if you were refunded and when. If you pay or donate via PayPal, I receive your name, email address, and billing address in an email from PayPal. Although I delete this information from my computer after we have the reading, it may remain on the PayPal site, as does all the data you share with paypal according to PayPal’s privacy policy. If you pay me directly using a credit card, I delete your information after the service is rendered, however the credit card processor First Data, Inc, keeps the information and I have access to it, should I require it in the event there is an issue with the credit card. I only use this information to process the payment or to send a thank you note or follow up email for setting up the appointment or to provide any further information or advice you requested.
- If you sign up for my mailing list, your information is in a Mailchimp file on the Mailchimp server. You can unsubscribe and have your information deleted at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe button on any email you receive from me using Mailchimp. I use the email application Mailchimp to send notices to you. I keep the following information in Mailchimp: name, email address, date of sign-up, which email campaigns you received, whether you opened the email or not, and clicked further or not. Occasionally I back up the Mailchimp information to my computer so it is not lost. I do not share it with anyone except as needed with developers or the web host. You may ask me to delete your information by contacting me using the contact form on this website. I do not share or sell your information to anyone.
- If you have any questions or concerns about your privacy, please contact Jeanne using the contact form and give her 72 hours to respond. Our goal is to preserve your privacy and respond to your requests and concerns while also preserving the safety and security of the website.
