Forum glitches—let us know when something is not working
I noticed a glitch in the forum, page numbers and the back / forward buttons are only shown if you're logged in. if you're not logged in you can only see the latest forum posts.
I just thought I'd mention it, maybe it's a setting somewhere?
Thanks Stu will check it out.
Stu, I played around with the settings and refreshed and reset some of the database in hopes it will fix the problem you have noticed. If that doesn't fix it, please let me know and I can get the technicians of the forum software to look into it. I can't seem to replicate the problem myself, so it's hard to fix what I can't see.
well done Jeanne, you fixed it! 🙂
Well I'll be a blue nosed golfer, I mean gopher.
P.S. Thanks Stu for helping.
I found the source of the problem. And it is still going on for some people. It is a code incompatibility that arose the last time the forum software had an update— in March. I will reach out to a developer to see if she can fix it. Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for looking into this, Jeanne. I'm having the same problem, i.e., I need to log in to see back/forward buttons.
I did some fixes and it looks like the problem went away. But I've read on the web that the problem may return again and that it needs a more technical fix than I am capable of doing. Please let me know if the problem persists and I will get a developer to do the technical fix. I know what the technical fix is, but I lack the coding expertise to execute it.
The problem is still there. I found the solution but it’s too technical for me to implement. Sent it to a developer last week but no response. Will find another developer.
Not a big deal with me. I just login in if I want to move to other pages. Thanks for looking into it. I'm sure it will be resolved at some point.
I noticed a possible glitch this morning. Under recent posts, it is showing that everything is at least a week old. Since I was both reading and posting yesterday, that can’t be right. I logged out and logged back in and tried on a different browser and it didn’t fix the problem.
Note: I just posted and it fixed the problem.
Baba, thanks for letting me know?. How did you fix it? I need to know if it's something unique to you or a general problem.
It righted itself when I posted. Before that, I tried logging out and in again and also tried a different browser to see if it would make a difference and it didn’t fix the problem. If it happens again, I will let you know.
Hi Baba, Deetoo and Stu. We have made some changes in the database and am wondering if you or anyone else still has the problem. For anyone unfamiliar with the problem -- if you are not logged into the forum and are viewing it as a guest user, there is no pagination on topics/threads that are longer than one page which means you can't click back and read earlier posts in that topic.
I have tried to duplicate the problem but I see pagination even when I'm not logged in. But when I go on the site incognito or using a friend's computer, I don 't see pagination. My developer says she sees pagination as a guest user. So I think the problem happens in certain situations and I'm trying to figure out when it happens so we can fix it.
Guest users who haven't registered in the forum may be the ones with the biggest problem here. I'm trying to make the site fully accessible to them, but since they aren't registered, I can't hear from them!
There is no pagination for me, so I still need to log on to access it.
Thanks, Deetoo. Darn. Back to the drawing boards!
I really enjoyed this glitch. Hmmm, last post 50 years ago.
That is similar to the problem I had the other day. It was showing that the last posts were months ago.
I still get no pagination when I'm not signed in. To navigate when I'm not signed in, I use the recent posts side bar. When I get to the end of a page and need to page forward, I look at the information of the last post on the page, and scroll to the next more recent entry on the side bar and click. It will take me to the next page. Unfortunately, the sidebar lags by several hours when I'm not signed on. Sigh.
Michele, I needed that chuckle (even if it is a glitch)
Michele, too funny! I'm going to print that and put it on my refrigerator.
