@tgraf66

You are right.  We won't have a super-majority.  But we can pass bills and force Trump to either sign or veto them.  Right now, McConnell is acting as a buffer and assuring that all of the bills that can help America are left to die in the Senate.  Trump is not being blamed because he is not being forced to take action.  However, if Democrats win both chambers in Congress, then Trump will no longer have that protection, and thus will suffer the political fallout.

Also, Trump won't be able to get any more judges appointed.  That alone will be worth flipping the Senate.

Nikki Haley's risky move defending Trump (Opinion) - CNN

"But like her fellow South Carolinian, GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham — who at one time publicly criticized Trump but is now one of his most visible public defenders — that Haley is now gone.

We saw that Saturday when she took to Twitter to defend Trump's reported insults about the brave members of the nation's armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

Miracle on the Hudson pilot 'Sully' Sullenberger blasts Trump over a report he disparaged fallen US service members - CNNPolitics

"For the first time in American history, a president has repeatedly shown utter and vulgar contempt and disrespect for those who have served and died serving our country.

While I am not surprised, I am disgusted by the current occupant of the Oval Office. He has repeatedly and consistently shown himself to be completely unfit for and to have no respect for the office he holds.

He took an oath of office that is similar to the one that each person takes who enters the U.S. Military. But he has completely failed to uphold his oath.

Now we know why. He has admitted that he cannot comprehend the concept of service above self.
He cannot understand selflessness because he is selfish. He cannot conceive of courage because he is a coward. He cannot feel duty because he is disloyal.

We owe it not only to those who have served and sacrificed for our nation, but to ourselves and to succeeding generations to vote him out."

At noon today, an attacker threw a rock at the ABC7 Eyewitness News window. What happened there?

@allyn your legal input would be appreciated here.

I think we are on the verge of full blown authoritarian rule. The US Justice dept just requested to defend Trump in the Carroll defamation lawsuit. I have no idea the laws barring such an act, but if they are allowdd to do so, that solidifies his complete rule over the department of Justice. Also, the lawsuit might have to be ended immediately if that happens because the government cannot be sued for defamation.

@mas1581

From a legal standpoint, I have to give credit to the attorneys here. This is a bold move by Trump to (1) use tax payer money to pay for his defense, (2) delay Trump's deposition and DNA test, (3) move the case to federal court (thus ensuring more delay) and (4) basically, have all the power of the federal government to use to intimidate Carroll.

This is a sneaky move. If Trump wins, he can drag out this case forever. If he loses, he actually has an argument that the appellate courts will have to look into (whether Trump 6th amendment right to counsel was violated by the judge's refusal).

Now, Carroll's attorneys can argue that they sue Trump in his capacity of Trump the civilian and not Trump the President. If they succeed, the court can deny the Justice Department's motion on the basis of lack of jurisdiction. Now, the justice department attorneys can certainly still represent Trump, but they would have to do it in the capacity as private attorneys and not as the justice department (which they will ignore, because it is Trump).

I guess we will see how the judge rules.

Personally, I am getting more and more disheartened by the day. I really wish Trump would resign, leave due to health reasons, or even (God forgive me) die before the election. He has caused so much chaos and heartache over the last four years, so the idea of another four years is unbearable. If he wins again, I may lose what little faith I have left in America, the belief in decency in my fellow man (and woman), and basically in hope for the future. I wish he would disappear forever and let us alone. I wish he could feel the pain that he inflicted on others and understand how incredibly rotten his soul is before it is too late, so he at least has the opportunity to reflect before it is too late. But I keep hoping against hope that when October gets here, Trump's enemies will come out of the woodwork and destroy him pnce and for all so we can finally focus on repairing the damage. I am sorry I feel this way, but I can't lie about it either.

Can someone send a little light my way to help me hold on until November? I'm going to vote no matter what, but I want to feel hope as opposed to dispair.

I've been crying all night and discussing a move to Portugal with a friend of mine. Obviously I don't want to leave my family. But I have to admit, I'm terrified of what's going to happen. And I too am becoming more disheartened by the day.

Please hang in there, guys. This is our country and we WILL take it back. I have to believe the good people will win.

RE: The Great Unraveling & The Great Turning Part II August 30, 2020 onward

Have hope everyone.

Hope is the light on a candle which spontaniously ignites in the darkest of hours. Hold on, that light for will guide you onward. Let it vanquish shadows of the fear lurking in the dark.

Replace the "what if's" of fears with the "what if's" of hope. How does that make you feel?

What if Biden wins?

What if Black Lives finally matter?

What if we begin a real clean energy plan?

What if we treated migrant children with love?

Finding hope will ease the wounds and sorrow the great turning has thrust upon all of us.

The will for change is here. There are more loving, caring people than there is darkness. Love is rising. Women are rising. Justice is waiting on the wings for a spectacular entrance.

I'm right there with you. I'm trying to hang on, have hope, and have faith that folks like @baba @bluebelle and others with more positive visions are correct and I am wrong. I was born a pessimist, so it's very hard for me. If things don't turn around, I honestly don't know what I will do or how long I'd be able to hold on.

@mas1581 Anthony Scaramucci said that can't happen without the military and they hate trump. Of course, trump is tearing do

Continued - posts lost in recent glitch:

And I'd been wondering why my health has taken such a major beating the past 4 months? Seriously? LOL! I have to laugh at myself. And you should see the amount of hair I've lost (literally).

The most I can say is, if what we perceive as the worst happens, we'll be there for each other. I also believe that the majority of Americans won't take it. The Genie is out of the bottle -- or as @jeanne-mayell stated, the will for change is here.

Never ever ever give up. Not on yourself. Not on your people. Not on your country. I know it is hard, but people have suffered much harder battles than this one for much longer, and then gone on to win. If you are hurting and discouraged, take that as a sign that you need self care, to give it to yourself.  And know that we all love you and support you so you too can rise.  We will all rise through this.

You came here to be a heart warrior.

Even worse then the book he has him on audio tape. They have a sample of him talking about not only old people but young people are at risk

According to a book coming out from Woodward Trump knew about Covid way beforehand and that it was going to be worst then the flu

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/09/09/politics/bob-woodward-rage-book-trump-coronavirus/index.html

It feels like the floor of the Trump campaign is swaying and creaking, just like a building does right before the whole thing gives way and collapses.

The structure is crumbling. It might somehow hold out for a few more weeks, but it's in a precarious condition.

Woodward does it again for sure.

President Trump’s head popped up during his top-secret intelligence briefing in the Oval Office on Jan. 28 when the discussion turned to the coronavirus outbreak in China.

“This will be the biggest national security threat you face in your presidency,” national security adviser Robert C. O’Brien told Trump, according to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward. “This is going to be the roughest thing you face.”

Matthew Pottinger, the deputy national security adviser, agreed. He told the president that after reaching contacts in China, it was evident that the world faced a health emergency on par with the flu pandemic of 1918, which killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide.

I noticed T did not go out and immediately say what Woodward wrote about was fake news, disgruntled looser hack. His usual MO. Maybe I missed it. I don’t see how he can deny he said that. Well today he tried to put the blame on Woodward saying if it was so bad how come he didn’t say any thing. Why didn’t he go public?  Problem is I am not sure anyone would believe him.

Also, did you see his list for future Supreme Court Justice...Ted Cruz. His attorneys, Tom Cotton and it goes on
