@dannyboy I remember being a child and hearing the menfolk say things... like ... "gator bait" little did I know the meaning behind that!!!! As an adult - I learned about the practice of white men taking black infants from their slave mothers and using them to draw in alligators. Snopes will tell you this is not true. Many stories throughout the South and time long past repeat the story often... makes me think it's true. The Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/ has this story and many more. Snopes reputation is not all that great as a reliable source either. You can also read about Medgar Evers death in 1963 as well as Emmet Till's Death and the Tulsa Ok Massacre. I remember George Wallace and Lester Maddox and Herman Talmadge days. I remember the first bussing of black students to the schools I attended and how I got in trouble for letting Willa sit by me on the bus when all the others were not letting her sit down after she boarded the bus. I knew Willa...she lived down the road a piece from us. We would play in the summertime at the creeks and the lake fishing - unbeknownst to our parents on both side LOL. Reminds me too... of teenage girls..disappearing from classes in jr and sr years... not to be heard from again. Whispers of botched abortions and others "going away" . Reminds me of even today... young well connected white boys having the "privilege of not letting a youthful mistake ruin their promising future" SMH Sometimes it seems the more things change the more they stay the same. As most of us have learned... being outside our "comfort zone" and being a bit "uncomfortable" is when we learn our biggest lessons. Hang in there ... help open young minds every chance you get. Peace and hugs to you too!
Critical race theory is just the idea that racism is structural and the idea that the mere existence of laws attempting to protect society from racial discrimination doesn’t work. It’s an academic idea that shows how intersectionality complicates our ability to use the law to protect minorities. As a teacher the 21 states trying to criminalize the discussion of race in the classroom is scarier than 4 years of Devos. This legislation against teaching or having discussions about race is akin to making it illegal to teach evolution.
@jaidy Two phone calls with two principals on two different sides of the state today. Couldn't have said it better myself.
The scariest one is the one about 50 miles from me. A group has demanded that the history department turn over all lesson plans, copies of the textbooks, assessments - everything - so they can "audit it" for CRT content. They're also scheduled to speak at the school board meeting on Monday. I've been coaching that district for a few weeks to try and help them get through this. I can't imagine what people think the acceptable endgame here is. Vilify schools more? Terrorize teachers into showing Back to the Future all year?
The first thing I told these principals to do at the board meetings during the challenges was to ask for one of the speakers to define Critical Race Theory. And to then keep looking at their watches during the long, drawn out pauses; every "umm" and "Well, you see." I then pulled samples from our state standards for them to really highlight - these are factual historical events - there's no debate that they happened.
It's going to be a really long year for social studies teachers next year.
I physically felt a little shifting and turning yesterday, as President Biden signed the Juneteenth holiday into law. How beautiful that signing was! Thank God for Miss Opal Lee! Biden got down on one knee to welcome her to the White House. ❤️ And it passed unanimously in the Senate! I think this is a monumental event in our national life. The light is working its way into some pretty dark corners of some pretty hard hearts.
Hi @lowtide and everyone. I have been away from the Forum for a while, but just wanted to pop in, and wish you all a very happy Juneteenth!
"The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States,
all
slaves
are
free
..."
@unk-p Thank you for this proclamation. Such a nice way to come back to us!
Yeah, do y'all hear that, Mr. Governor and Ted Cruz et al? The White Supremest's game is over, over, over. I can still hear the voices from my angels warning me in a vision on July 2016 of what we were heading into: the last hurrah of the extreme Right: Voices chanting, Texas, Texas, Texas! Well they are on their way out.

Adam Parkhomenko is an 8th generation Arkansas resident. He is running against Sarah Huckabee Sanders. There has been discussions about the upcoming races and the need for Democrats to run. Adam looks like he can get the job done. Check oit his video.
@kksali I loved that video.I started a new topicfor upcoming races. I keep hearing about another race that needs help that I am losing track, so I hope people will post about the races that matter to them, like this one. I'd love to see Sarah Huckabee lose to this man.
Giuliani got his law license suspended. the former personal lawyer for former President Donald Trump who once held one of the legal profession's most prestigious jobs, was suspended Thursday from practicing law in New York state by an appellate court that found he made "demonstrably false and misleading statements"
about the 2020 election.
In a ruling released following disciplinary proceedings, the court concluded that "there is uncontroverted evidence" that Giuliani, the former Manhattan US attorney, "communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump's failed effort at reelection in 2020."
Happy Friday Afternoon! Merrick Garland announced today that the DOJ is suing George re voter suppression.
@jessi1978 Last year we were waiting and praying for the time when a new Administration would un-do the plainly fascist actions of the T administration. We have many visions posted that this un-doing would occur. But it is quite another thing to actually see it unfolding. I am so happy to see Guilianni disbarred. I have a list of others I would like to see also taken down, like Barr for a number of offenses starting with his shut down and cover up of the Mueller Report.
The Trump organization is likely looking at charges by next week.
Former President Donald Trump's namesake company is expecting to face criminal charges as soon as next week after a nearly two-year investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
In a meeting Thursday, prosecutors told attorneys representing the Trump Organization that they expected to bring charges related to fringe benefits given to certain employees -- ranging from cars and apartments to school tuition -- over a period of several years.
@theungamer
Yep. And the court landed on the docket of a Trumpista judge, which means he'll rule for GA and the DOJ will have to appeal, it will take years and the law won't be overturned in time for the midterms.
I have a plan with a couple of old college friends - if the law stands, we'll absentee vote in our own districts and go down to GA to hand out food and water to people waiting in line. One of us owns a food truck!
