Bernie Sanders has announced he is running for President and released a single slogan at the moment which is: 'Not me. Us.' He announced it on Vermont Public radio and his website has been updated.

Just read that news, as well.

Most interesting to realize that in just 3 years, his platform ideals have increasingly become part of the Democratic mainstream, with other candidates echoing them during the race for the party’s 2020 presidential nomination.

But just how much more difficult might it be for 2020 than it was in 2016?

Inserted link connects to today's New York Times analysis of his chances.

It is a new world and we need younger leaders. Sanders, Biden, & Clinton are of another time and need to step aside.

During the last remote viewing exercise, asking to see who the Democratic presidential candidates were I saw Beto, but then saw Bernie and Kamala Harris.  I think its going to be a toss up how this one goes, but I'd expect some combo of those three for Pres/VP

Russian bot activity against Kamala Harris has been in overdrive; it's silent on the Bernie front. It's been revealed that there was Russian support for Bernie as far back as the 2016 New Hampshire primary. Bernie has an interesting voting record on Russia. Anyone have insight/intuition on this?

I would have preferred Sanders stay out of the running. He's already played an outsize role in bringing progressive bona fides back into the American mainstream and energizing a new generation of voters and politicians. He could have leveraged that influence this time around as an elder statesman; offering private advice and endorsing (or not endorsing) certain candidates. Instead he's jumped back into the glare of an intra-party battle royale and could end up tarnishing his image in the process.

@Saibh: I haven't looked at his voting record on Russia, but I imagine many operatives in the Kremlin would publicize his candidacy simply because he is not an establishment figure, and therefore doesn't toe the Beltway gospel of constant foreign intervention (a concern since Russia is trying to expand its military influence in the Middle East). Unlike Trump, though, Sanders has a moral compass, so he would never kowtow to Putin and friends the way the current administration does.

This seems about ego to me. Democrats have strong women about middle age that are very competent to run the US. The combo that draws the biggest crowds with their platform and energy, be it a man and a woman, two women is who we need. Have them go every city the same days that trump goes somewhere. Be tough. Not mean like him, but tough in calling out his lies, immorality, connection with Putin, concern with his money and not yours. I’ve read the predictions of trump staying in office in 2020, by either calling an emergency or refusing to leave. This cannot be allowed to happen. People like Sanders might split the votes and party. Democrats and Independents will need to flood the ballots and somehow Russian interference must be kept out.

Hi Anita.

I agree that having a woman be president would be incredible. But that cannot be enough (remember Sarah Palin). Policy matters, for me policy and past voting record are the only qualifiers, everything else is fluff.

I loved the videos Bernie released. I feel that even if he doesn't win he might push the others leftward and hold them accountable, for example, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. Especially on Foreign policy.

I agree with DcD -- I think Bernie is appreciating how effectively his 2016 presidential campaign pushed his progressive ideas forward, and he is doing it again more to get his platform out there, connecting with young people in a grassroots way, than with the expectation of actually winning the nomination. And (in his mind) if he does win the nomination, so much the better! This is about his deep, passionate commitment to his unique platform, not about ego.

I can't believe I'm saying this, it pains me to say it and I think I'm throwing up in my mouth a little, but when I saw Twitler's reaction to the announcement - "His time is past" - I said out loud - "Agreed".

Sanders is too old. He would be 79 at inauguration. This is about his ego. He needs to let go and support others, he needs to embrace and encourage the idea that while he may be too old, his wonderful ideas are not. It's unfortunate that none of the others are saying "Thanks to Sen. Sanders, this is part of my platform." But this is how the Dems roll - they incorporate his ideas without acknowledging him directly, and I think that's what has egged him on to run again.

And if you doubt that this is about his ego, remember it was discussed he could've been Hilary's running mate as VP, and he declined and said "No, I'm not running for VP." And we all know how that turned out...  I think they would've won, and he could have helped Hilary shape policy considerably, kinda like Biden did for Obama.

I think Bernie would be great. Age is an asset here. He is at Trump's same level, white, old, and from the block. I hope he wins and I hope Kamal is his running mate. Beto sounds like Obama but has so little experience. For me though as long as Kamala's there I'm there.

Zoron has a very interesting post here called Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Things are stirring published 10 removed link He predicted then that both Sanders and Warren would run, and they are. He also predicted they would team up and that Noam Chomsky would act as a surrogate for them. So a lot of really old people could play significant roles in the 2020 election.

Zoron wrote,’I think that eventually, they make the pact, and its Warren in Veep position, and Bernie mobilising and awakening his vast sleeping army, who will awake, and go forth. I think the actual position will be clear by Spring 2020. They converge, then, if not sooner. Warren is very strong that she wants to do something.’

Z was right again about Bernie's ‘vast sleeping army’ which raised $6 million in 24 hours. Even the corporate media, which is attacking him mercilessly, has to acknowledge that.

But the ‘younger’ candidates, at least as far as Bernie’s army is concerned, lack credibility. For progressives the issues are what do you stand for, what’s your record and where do you get the money for your campaign? So progressives embrace old guys like Bernie and young people like A Ocasio-Cortez. Most of the rest of the field of Democrats, excluding Warren for the most part, are already bought and paid for.

Zoron: ‘But, I am not saying that he cannot win, and if the events twist and turn over the next 36 months. Jeanne has nailed it, quite sharply. The forces of corruption against him, in both parties, are huge.’

We fetishize the new, the novelty of the new. And the DNC is not above rigging the primary against Bernie Sanders. They’ve moved the California primary to Super Tuesday which benefits Harris who’s already met with Clinton’s staff and her Wall Street donors in July 2017.

So Bernie has a lot going against him as he did last time. And he has an army. One thing I'm watching for is, if he doesn’t win the nomination, will progressives continue to accept a corporate Democrat because at least it’s a better choice than Trump? Will the lesser of two evils choice work this time? That could make it hard for the DNC and their candidate.

Of course the real excitement will be to see how the prediction plays out, a Bernie/Liz alliance and Chomsky in the campaign…it's a progressive dream team

Thank-you Five81993. Would you try posting the link again or emailing it to me using the contact form?  Sometimes the Forum app removes links of new bloggers,  (I see you've posted just 5 times so maybe it will allow you to post a link after this time) or it might have to do with your software configuration).   I'd like to read it.  Thanks!

@Five81993, thank you for pointing to the thread with Zoron's post. Very interesting indeed, particularly regarding Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Nancy Pelosi.

I had one conversation recently (before Bernie Sanders announced his candidacy), and I was surprised at the level of enthusiasm for him. It caught me off guard and I  felt as though I was truly underestimating him and his supporters, as well as the credibility he has gained in the past 2 years.

Very interesting topic.  I would vote for Bernie and Liz if they are the Democrats candidates.  The thing that pops into my mind when I think about them is "healing".  I don't know why, I certainly am not psychic, but that is my intuition talking.  The one thing to remember from the last election about Bernie, Trump couldn't goat him into a mad response. Trump would call him "the little commie" but Bernie would respnd with a factual response to whatever topic was being debated.  I felt like  Trump realized Bernie was so much smarter than him that it almost scared him.  He knew he wouldn't win a debate with Bernie.  I think this would be a great advantage in 2020.  Everyone is sick and tired of Trump and his bluster and lies. BErnie is straight forward and factual, the exact opposite of Trump. I just hope Bernie is clean.

Trump gets the women riled up by degrading them.  Hot tempers and passion are fine things but I think the way to defeat Trump is with the Bernie approach.  Be smarter, straight forward and stick to the facts.

Ok that is my opinion for what it is worth!

Thanks Five81993, Jeanne: https://www.jeannemayell.com/community/u-s-politics/bernie-sanders-and-elizabeth-warren-things-are-stirring/#post-2643

ZORON SAYS:
forecast: Senator elizabeth Warren is going to be very active and involved in the 2020 Election.
Did some deep scanning and divination plus meditation  on Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
I have to say that I was astonished. The outcome:
This links with my recent Sanders post.
Incredibly powerful. I have never seen, or experienced before, such a powerful set of intuitions about American politics.

The Russian support for Bernie (and all Third party candidates) was to split the vote, decreasing the votes for Clinton, so that Clinton's chances of winning would be less.   Their support for Bernie was to have Trump win.  Voting for a Third party candidate is like throwing away your vote, I'm sorry to say.  I understand why there was hope for Bernie to win, but it's not possible because of the Two party system.  Here in Florida, registered Independent voters can not vote in the Primaries.

With Bernie running as an Independent in 2020, I believe there will be the same splitting of votes again in the end.   However, if Bernie ran as a Democrat, watch out!  That would be awesome!
