What the title says. I haven't been using my tarot much lately due to the fact most of the questions I've asked were almost similar, where basically I have no choice in the matter but to wait things out at best. Hence I don't have much questions at this point, which leaves my tarot untouched for quite a while. Worse part is a part of me wants to play but I'm not sure how.

Any suggestions on how I can make more use out of them? What sort practice rituals or spreads I can do, etc?

@goldstone

When I don't have anyone to read for (or don't have any questions myself), I often practice by doing "pretend" readings for others.

For example -- if I'm reading a book I'm really into, I'll do a reading for the main character. Same with a film. Or maybe someone in the news -- a celebrity, politician, etc. Sometimes I just create an imaginary querent and make up a question.

I find this a good way to stay connected to the cards, practice new spreads, and just generally keep my tarot skills sharp.

Hope this helps :)

@sistermoon  Confidence takes time and to be fair, this kind of work is one of the ultimate mysteries. We can never be sure we will be able to connect with someone, especially that they are open enough to let us in.

Funny thing.....

I started learning Tarot back in February.  I was practicing with a few women at work, and I get giddy when the cards come up with an OBVIOUS answer (no stick to subtle to beat the answer home).

With the pandemic, I've been at home and have less chances to read.  So, the other night I learned how to do a Facebook Live and tagged some friends for it.  I spent about 2 hours answering questions, it was fun!  I'm really new at it, and it can be challenging to interpret the cards honestly (there is a bias to giving the "rosy" picture, but I try to give the options of the rosy and non rosy outcome.  Trying to be honest.

You could always practice on us, lol.   I'm sure we can come up with all kinds of questions!

I like that "no stick too subtle"....☺️

As there are so many gifted Tarot readers to learn from, like beautiful Jeanne here, and MJ at 'soulful revolution', who really draw on their Intuition and Soul source to interpret the cards, we can all mirror our own Spiritual center in our readings.

It's never really "by the book" it seems, in a linear way, and there are so many (hundreds!) of different decks available now ... that in itself is kinda fascinating!

Lately I've been drawn to the lavish artwork of decks like the ''Theleme Tarot" and "Angel Answers" .... and some readers combine multiple decks for one session ....

So it really is a lifelong study with mutiple layers and possibilities, like Astrology, though the greatest asset as a Divine tool appears to be in honing our own unique Intution and channeling positive Spirit ... ?

@goldstone  I understand how you feel. I don't usually read for myself, and don't often do readings for others, so instead I often practice by asking about real world events.  I find this a great way to get to know how my own mental symbology with divination works and also my cards. And asking a question which can be verified is a great way to learn as you can check your reading.

For example let's say I know something specific will be happening in government (like a vote on something or ruling) I'll ask about the outcome. Then when the event happens I can check to see if I got any hits with my reading. Sometimes the cards may show something I didn't first pick up on and then when I look back it seems so obvious. Or I'l get a feeling or hint of something which I can't quite explain or understand immediately and then after the event it becomes clearer. Other times it'll be much clearer what I'm seeing in the cards. And this all helps going forward to understand what the energies are that I'm picking up.

I think part of any tarot journey is finding out one's own reading style, how your own mind/feelings interprets or filters through the messages to your own understanding (if that makes sense), and practice helps so much with that.

I've done this lots of times with some interesting results. In fact I did this today with some new cards that arrived.

Something else I do is try and see what will happen in a tv show or film I'm about to watch. That's worked for me to. Either about the general plot or a specific character. Again, because I can easily check my reading.

I've been doing some practice as some suggested on this site, mainly weekly updates on looking up the current wellbeing of some people that I look up too. (Hint: It's not rich celebrities, but people who actually did some actual work within the community.)

I think I should start reading on people that I knew close by. Perhaps if I see something off, I could contact them and check out how they have been doing.

I also want to ask: Is there any books, websites, etc that you would recommend? Well besides this one, since I'm actually going through the articles on this site. From my experience so far with my cards, their meanings and interpretation of the situation is more fluid than set, so I like to read dozen of text so I could understand the cards better with many meanings and such.

If I have enough cash, I would considered joining one of these classes right here.

I'm not particularly fluent in the tarot: I occasionally do readings for myself, mostly to get my bearings on a situation or moment.

But a book that has been a wonderful companion over the years is "The Tarot Handbook" by Hajo Banzhaf. It's based on the Rider Waite deck and for each card he gives an overview, and how it might apply to the professional field, our inner life, and our relationships.

He also shows how to do a reading called The Path, and has interpretations for each card in each position of the reading.

Most of all, I suppose I like the author's accepting and supportive attitude about life and its mysteries.

@gbs

I've been checking that book out and I've noticed it's out of print according to Amazon, but if you know other places that could have that book reprinted, let me know.

I've been debating if I should write my own personal tarot text book, since I'm starting to noticed that not only reading tarot is more a fluid thing, but also sometimes one's interpredation is not set in the stone. And at times, those interpredations for reason didn't seem to fit the way I read. Hence I would rather do some reasearch, learning and put it all together into my own book. Feels like I'm doing my own field experiment here.

So, any suggestions on how I approch this project?

abebooks.com is a used-book site that I've found very useful in the past for purchasing out-of-print books. (Be advised that it's owned by Amazon.)

If the book project is calling you, there's a reason. I don't have any advice on how to approach it, other than to say, follow your curiosity and see where it leads.

Good luck!

Do any of you want to practice some more?  I have been asking lots of questions lately, using the Celtic Cross.  About Trump’s taxes, Mary’s book, Bolton, Trump’s health, the Whistleblower’s testimony in the House, the FBI’s Volume 5, Racial Inequality Changing, well... I could go on.

The last question I asked about was Trump’s Rally in Tulsa, and what we need to know about it.  I keep wondering about how much of a coronavirus outbreak is going to happen there, and got some interesting cards.  Want to play?  A group effort might be illuminating!

@claire, too late for the Tulsa event last night. I'd like to practice too. Why don't you pick a topic and let's throw cards and compare notes. Maybe others will join us.

Have you taken @Jeanne's Tarot class? It's on my wish list.

Hi @snowbird.  OK, Good!  As far as the rally last night, here’s what came up...

Tell me about Trump’s Rally in Tulsa.

Heart of the matter. 8 of cups.  He is holding it to feel better about himself, however, this isn’t like the good old days. His heart isn’t in it anymore.

Challenge.  Three of swords.  Heartache. Sadness.  It isn’t the same as it used to be.

Root Cause.  Page of Cups. Emotional immaturity.  Sensitivity. His lack of it means he did this to himself.

Recent Past.  Six of Cups.  Something from the past will resurface in the present or future.

Goals.  7 of Pentacles.  Pentacles are my Covid suit.  The decision he made to hold the rally isn’t a good one in a pandemic.

Immediate Future.  6 of Pentacles.  Quid Pro Quo.   Others are going to come to you with their hand out.  This isn’t real support from his base, rather “this for that”.

How he sees himself.  4 of Pentacles.  Holding on tightly to all he has, which isn’t much at this point.

How we see him.  10 of Pentacles.  As the Typhoid Mary figure for Covid spread.

Hopes and Fears.  7 of Wands.  Arguments.  Fights.  Distraction.

Final Outcome.  Queen of Swords.  Powerful Woman wants to cause trouble by telling the truth.

Extra insight is always appreciated, and welcomed, please!

I could not bring myself to watch for long, however that rambling explanation of the water drinking, ramp walking episode was something!  He seems over and done with.  Stick a fork in him, he’s (over)done.

What do you get on a decision from SCOTUS about his financial information?

Your question next!

@snowbird, no I haven’t taken Jeanne’s class.  I am not exactly a beginner, although am always striving to get better.  Practice helps, and I’ve learned some new things lately, which is welcome. I mean, who doesn’t love a lightbulb moment?

I still get hung up sometimes on certain cards, which is a challenge.

OK, @claire, here's a stab at reading how the Supreme Court decision around Trump's finances will pan out. I hope this is not just wishful thinking! I welcome any additional insights.

Heart of the matter--9 of Wands--he is battle weary in the face of opposition and adversity

Challenge--8 of Pentacles--he is faced with necessity of very hard work to preserve his legacy

Base of reading--The Moon--something is hidden and needs to come out

Recent past--5 of Cups--A decision that went wrong.

Crown of reading--Queen of Cups--this queen has a story to spill

Near future--Hierophant--The Supreme Court in all its power

How he sees himself--The Hanged Man--He sees himself as stuck

His environment--The Wheel of Fortune--His fortune is waning

Hopes and fears--10 of Pentacles--Hoping he can preserve his business and fortune

Outcome--Page of Wands--News is coming forth!

I just edited this, thinking I should add something about the Outcome--Page of Wands. "It's only a Page." This could mean that the decision is disappointing. Maybe a decision that does not go as far as it could have.

@claire  and @snowbird This is great fun!  Could you all say what deck you are using when you tell us the cards you've thrown?  Thanks!
