This would be a place to ask questions about things like starting topics, adding links to a post, the purpose of buttons, etc.

i have a Q about adding links.  If i add a link to a picture, it shows up directly in the post. But if i add a link to a video, it just shows the video's address in blue, and you have to click on it and it takes you to another page (such as youtube).  So is there a way to post video so that it shows it in the post, and then the viewer  can just hit play, if they are interested?

Unk p: Thanks for your question. I may need to get my developer to put some source code into the forum application in order for people to be able to embed videos in their posts.  She's working on something for me right now, but I will see if she can do that this week and will get back to you when I hear from her.

I have had problems adding images, however.  They don't show up directly in a post for me, but they do for others.  If you or anyone else knows how to fix this, I'd like to know.

Thank you, Jeanne!        "embed", that's the word i was looking for!     As far as pics go, i (accidentally) found that if you hit "copy image location", instead of just "copy image", it post the pic directly. I don't know why, I'm not techie at all!                 peace & love  to you

My research a few months ago indicated that the original wordpress developers discouraged making it easy to add images in group formats as it increased the possibilities of embedded cookies/hacking kind of bad tagalongs that could slip through from those creating them on youtube etc.

Threatened security integrity kind of issue. Also posters could easily put in x rated images to ruin site.

Arrarently they used to have a button for uploading images like in a blog post but then security discouraged adding it in forum themed programs.

These fears might well explain why it now takes work arounds to add in images now.

Michele, thank you.   I care greatly about site security and the security of those who post here.

Love and peace to both of you.

Q:  is there a way to private message each other?

Like, for instance, how do you tell a sister or a brother that the links they posted are broken, without making a federal case out of it lol

Good point.  I love how you call them sisters and brothers.  There’s no private messaging. Send me an email and I will either fix it or let them know.  Thanks!

Unk P,

Many times broken links occur from news sites being "aggregates".

They use bits and pieces of news from  major sites like CNN added to sites from the BBC etc. to get a variety of interesting stories to gain a bigger audience.

As a result they have to give credit to the originating site but want people to use their site for news  instead and it creates those huge url addresses that end up 4 or 5 lines long.

As we copy their addresses to share here, it is very easy to lose part of or even just the "l" on the ending word html.l, for example.  Then of course the link is broken and  doesn't work .

It's such a tiny thing and not worth making someone else feel badly about in any unnecessary way.  Just as you have no nicely said.

What I do is leave a nice comment after the other person's post including a corrected but easy to notice repeat of the corrected link. Just google the topic using any link on that subject but you can spot the source in even a broken url. Or i find a good link to a similar article and suggest it for reading too

No hig deal or complicated run around fix but it nicely and quietly gives others a working link.

Happy reading my predictions "brother" ?

There is a glitch in this forum software that removes links from some users that must be related to their equipment.  I’ve yet to figure out the reason for the problem   It’s happened to about five users over the past two years.  And it just happened to one here.   I can go in and restore the link if the user sends it to me via the contact form.
