I had to wait to reply to this one.... as a child.. my precious granny was my Northern Star in a life filled with uncertainty, pain and fear in a family raised by a narcissist mother and hard drinking workaholic father...and I felt acutely the distress and fear from your little one as you began to soothe it the best you could. .and to feel your pain that you couldn't just wrap her tightly in your arms, stroke her hair and tell it would all be alright. I pray for all of our little ones....  who long to be held by their shining Lights in their lives...and send Love and Comfort and Spirit hugs.. until the time we can actually hug them freely once more.

I'm beyond words...I so dearly wish this was not the case.

I personally will say a prayer for you and those like you who are taking care of us at this scary, unprecedented time.

You are my hero, and I'm wrapping you and those who also do the heroic work you do in a big bubble of light, protection, love and gratitude.

I wonder how many will be harmed or killed by taking medical advise from unqualified people. There is a trend of people advising others to take untested supplements at the onset of symptoms based on rumors of a medicine that would, in a fantasy world, cure people of this Coronavirus. We know of one thing to take, Tylenol. Everything else is dangerous. Comment boards everywhere are alight with the equivalent of people recommending which brands of lube or Ayurvedic herbs will block the transmission of the HIV virus. Please resist this fad. It shows a lack of seriousness about the virus, and it will most certainly raise the body count in the English speaking world.

Please know these energies are felt and they help us be stronger in tough times. For this, I am deeply grateful.

Also if anyone here has mad sewing skills, please apply them in making masks for us.

Heart blessings to you all,

e

Hello friends.

I am a nurse in central NY. We have only begun to get test results back and my hospital has its few first Covid patients (most are unconfirmed PUI). We are at the early beginning and have emptied beds to prepare, have made one floor/wing of the building as negative pressure and there is a huge barrier room one must enter, change into PPE and then enter again--that is where the PUI patients are sent and when they test negative are transferred out to a different floor. There are some Covid - complex patients in ICU as well. But there are nurses being sent home still for low census however we expect that will change so all of us who do not work on inpatient care floors are entered on a roster as to what skills/level of care we are able to function on. My manager thinks we would be most helpful in starting IVs and drawing labs. I personally feel I can work back on step-down floors like high risk telemetry when needed (would prefer my own floor because I know the people but concerned about my old manager who is pregnant). All I know is that chronic population, they are are the highest risk of mortality. So it is a weird quiet time for me-- I have work but not very busy. It is crazy how we have shifted from being so busy and overscheduled to half a unit/day scheduled.

My husband is an electrician and is also kept working on a project at a local pharmaceutical company. They are building a new lab there. The people left working onsite at that company are still very rude to the construction workers. His biggest gripe is the gym being closed. He goes everyday and lifts weights (strength training) he uses exercise to release anxiety and relieve depression and unfortunately, is pretty rigid in his practice. I have tried to suggest trying yoga or other alternates and he has rejected all of my suggestions. After this thing is over, maybe we can build an addition on our house... or find a corner in it that will meet specificiations for him to have a home gym (fitted with squat rack etc.).

So, for us, life has not dramatically changed, we still have a place we have to go every morning. We are lucky we still have income and purpose I guess. We were not super social and are kind of like hermits anyway. I take online classes for my BSN and that has not changed. I am in the middle of a statistics class so am pretty busy. The weather is just getting a little warmer--except this weekend is in the 20-30s. Our son lives with us and is in college and they had Spring Break all week. He plays a lot of video games and reads and watches tv. He just got into a Master's program and we are very excited for him. He is graduating in May but we think the ceremony will be cancelled or postponed and it looks like my MIL won't be able to visit from Florida d/t the pandemic (she planned to attend and stay for a few days).

Our rules keep changing at the hospital. Now there is a No Visitor policy. Now we are not to use airborne/contact precautions, we are following the CDC recommendations of droplet and they have significantly lowered their recommendations to the use of bandanas if we run out which is kind of a dark joke on healthcare protection. If we ran out of bandanas I think they would suggest paper party masks with coffee filters taped over them. We are also told not to talk about the pandemic and the restrictions to each other where patients can hear because it upsets them. (I asked, are we shutting down the cable tv? because they all have the news on). It is like that "Everything is Fine! All is Well!" meme.

On a ridiculous note... I could have sworn I heard the president say that "people are dying that have never died before." I usually avoid listening to his voice but a coworker was playing him on her phone... Did anyone else hear that? I just started laughing thinking it was an SNL skit but she said it was a press conference.

Yep, he said that. He needs to go. Fingers crossed that those of you who have predicted his farewell in May are correct.

Glad to hear that you are doing this well and life has not drastically changed for you. We need to hear that there is a kind of altered normalcy the many are blessed to experience.

On the other hand sharing your hospital's advise that it wasn't necessary to follow the higher levels of precautions level and dropping so many precautions supposedly based on CDC advisories?? Wow! Is this supposedly going to prevent additional fear and panic by thinking and believing that our government and the CDC has everything under control?

Seems totally absurd based on all we know about this virus and all that's going on it our world. .

The Presidential COVID-19 Task Force, while presenting frank updates and answers to questions by Dr. Anthony Fauci...and even a lot from Dr. B and a few others often does seem like an SNL skit and a parody of the absurd that we are all sharing right now.

Time to get out my bandanas and decorate a few coffee filter masks.

While my routine has not been changed overmuch, the world is different. And the hospital feels different. There is a suppressed feeling of panic in the air. We try to joke around with patients and each other because humor does help vanguish that feeling. Everyone smiles at each other and every day I say "Today is a wonderful day to be alive!" Because it is. Every day is a gift.

Also, we are laying bets on the baby boom to come. Labor and Delivery may be an expanding field in nursing. I think after all this death, people will be so excited about new life coming.

I type on a cell phone and go through many saved edits before I get all all of my crazy errors out and finish even commenting. But I loved your post and it really gave me a peek into your lives at work and home.

And the baby boom to come, oh my!

All the more reason to try to enjoy each of our new normals..even just day by day.

I watch our young families with small children home now being amazingly creative at finding new home made entertainment to do together. Boxes into rocket ships and playhouses and pruned tree limbs into forts. Arts and crafts from what they do have instead of lamenting at what they cannot go out and buy.

Our isolation is hard not being able to see our children or little grandchildren muchless our tiniest newborn little now getting bigger and bigger without us in her life--much less family members who are seriously ill.

But we are figuring it out day by day. And laughing at each others videos our our grandkids or all of our pets or even the horror stories of cats with diarrhea or their dogs eating poop

Really and truly most of us are making the best of it and laughing and a sense of humor really, really is so good for all of us.

Bless you for all the work you do and how well you do it..always with caring and a sense of connection, hope, and humor ?

Thank you. It makes it so scary  that it might be so close. What makes it scarier is that their home is a driveway away from the library.

There are only 3 questions reporters should be asking Mango Menace:
1. Why are you still here?
2. How many more Americans have to die before you leave?
3. You do know that no one likes you, right?

@sdj Then it must have been someone else talking about it during the time my coworker was playing it--Maybe the radio DJ doing an impression?  Remember all the Bushisms? Today we have TrumpTweets. Plus, he sounds really stupid when he does talk.

Hello all,

Did you happen to hear Cuomo's address and press conference this morning?   Try to listen to it online if you can access it.

I woke up this morning convinced that I have the virus -- very weak, hot, difficulty breathing, lightheaded.  Took my temperature all morning -- i.e. obsessively -- no fever.   No coughing, except from my allergies.  I finally concluded that it was an anxiety attack.  What surprises me is that I woke up that way.

I avoided the news this morning, but my husband was watching MSNBC when Cuomo came on.  The more he spoke, the more I calmed down.  More belly-breathing.  More exhales.  The sun even came out at that moment, giving me hope.  I smiled.  I walked away feeling, we can do this.  We will get through this.  We all have a part to play; we're not powerless.  We will be better people at the end of this experience.

My only regret was, I wish Cuomo was running our country right now!

If it comes down to it, buy the largest furnace hepa air filters you can find, cut the material out of the cardboard, and use that with rubber bands for masks.

I posted this awhile back in the political section, but I think it's apropos (with some minor changes) for this forum as well...

"Everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay, it's not the end"  -John Lennon.

I just want to say that everything is happening for a reason. The world is going through a great change right now and from our lowly human perspective, everything seems out of control, chaotic and scary.  But, be assured, from the highest perspective (the soul's) all is exactly as it should be.  We are here to learn the greatest lesson: Unconditional Love.  And right now there is so much opportunity for this.  The question to ask yourselves is this: What can I learn from my actions and my feelings? Why do I feel the need to control everything and everyone around me in order to feel safe?

For the answers, I suggest, stopping, taking a rest from the outside focus and directing your attention inside, to your heart.  Here, you will realize that everything really is okay, both now and in the end.

Just back from a walk in my neighborhood.  We had a dusting of snow last night but only evidence on roof tops.  It felt good to be out in the cold air.
@LauraF - loved your 3 questions.  Apparently one of my neighbors still likes the idiot in chief. A trump/pence sign was proudly displayed on their front lawn . No idea who they are it was around another cul de sac.  crazy!
We live in a suburb of Cleveland near Lake Erie.
My spring allergies have been kicking in and I wonder each morning if it’s “the virus”.   Walking and yoga helps. The silver lining is that my son is doing so well at home.   It is a huge eye opener that high school is so stinking stressful.  And the importance of listening when they tell you it’s awful.
It feels very clear to me that this pandemic is a long overdue GIANT PAUSE.    Sad that we have ignored all the warnings to slow down and are learning this lesson in this way.
Sending love and healing to you all.

There's an old saying "Let God and let go."  This is great advice for a period in which events seem overwhelming and out of control.  The truth is, events are always out of our (human) control.  It is the self delusion that we can somehow control things to suit our own will that causes us so much stress and suffering. To "let go and let flow" puts us into alignment with our true nature of pure energy and Love.  For help with doing this, we can ask the following:

"I ask for guidance so that my life flows for the Greatest and Highest Good"

@mas1581

that is what my husband and I did. I bought cotton fabric and made a mask and inserted the filter in it. I am going to make this for my mom and dad and my son who still has to go out and work.
