Jeanne, Zoron, can you scan this? This took me by surprise. What do you see coming out of this? More deals or a one shot thing?

Several reasons for Trump's agreement with the democratic leaders come to mind:  1. Trump is trying to win over his biggest critic regarding the Russian investigation -- House Minority Intelligence Committee Chuck Shumer. Trump is a big believer in getting favors. Other than Mueller himself, Shumer has been Trump's most outspoken and well spoken critic.  He also has influence as the ranking minority member of the intelligence committee.

Second, Trump wants easy money to wage wars and provide tax breaks, and sink into hurricane relief. He wants to be popular right now. If  Congress lifts the debt ceiling rule, then Trump can more easily get the projects he wants without the huge hurtle of a debt ceiling block.  He won't have as much trouble with needing votes from the likes of  Tea Party leaders like Paul Ryan. Then he can win more bi-partisan support and maybe stave off Mueller.  He also wants to build that wall. (Of course, Ryan is not going to approve this debt ceiling measure, not in a million years.) And Trump doesn't have much vote pull in Congress, so the gentlemen's agreement he struck with Pelosi and Shumer is likely meaningless.

Trump knows he colluded with the Russians. He knows his son-in-law and son have been caught and will go down unless he can get the Mueller investigation discredited.  He doesn't have the law on his side. They broke the law. They committed high treason - Kushner, Donald Jr., Manafort, and Trump himself.  So he's doing to do all he can to use political favors to get himself and his family excused from the law.

Finally, as the article says, there was nothing signed.  It was just another one of Trump's friendly ass-kissing moves that has no power.  He flip flops constantly.  If Shumer continues to back Mueller, Trump could turn on him. And, raising the debt ceiling helps Trump too.

Not sure if this is the best place to post this question given the date of the earlier post. A friend sent me an email about the possible upcoming crisis with the debt ceiling. I am wondering if any here have gotten insights from spirit guides?

Here is the link shared which has a good recap on the situation: https://washingtonmonthly.com/2023/03/10/how-debt-ceiling-brinksmanship-jeopardizes-u-s-power/
