Did Trump  just do something ummm ...good?

Excuse me a moment while I pick myself off the floor and  adjust my reading glasses because moments like this just don't happen very much ...well... ever with this White House.

The Yeti just signed an executive action Wednesday that will forgive the student loan debt of thousands of veterans who are completely and permanently disabled.

He actually signed the action.  I am not going to say how much this will save those vets because that figure came from  the person currently "squatting" in the White House and  in my opinion it has no merit until it is proven valid by someone not affiliated with  the White House.

But the Executive action appears to be real.

Anyone see any pigs flying ?

@lovendures

There was already a loan forgiveness programs this just make it easier for the veterans and for trump to look good with his base. He always has agenda.

The executive order is designed to fix that by streamlining the process, and shifting the responsibility from eligible veterans, to the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Education.

@Jessi1978,

Thanks for that information.  I guess the pigs are flying, but just above the ground.

I have personal news to share, not sure if this is the right thread, but it's wonderful and I need to share it. As you all know, I'm visiting family to help out with the birth of my new niece. Well, she got her name today! I don't usually share such things online, but it's so special:

Bina Nerit - it means "Illuminator of Wisdom" in Hebrew

May she bring wisdom to her family and the world.

Welcome Bina Nerit.  The salvation of our planet is in the hands of the little ones. May she have a life full of love and meaning.  I'm sure Aunt Laura will get her off to a good start!

David Byrne, the leader of the band Talking Heads has started a campaign to collect positive news stories.  It looks good, according to this article and video clip showing him talking about it. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/q/blog/need-a-day-brightener-david-byrne-offers-reasons-to-be-cheerful-1.5260608

His site is https://reasonstobecheerful.world. You can subscribe for free and get a good news story every day.

I love that he says that the good news stories are just as real as the bad and so we need to bring balance back into our perspective by collecting and reading these stories.

I'm going to try to read as many good news stories each day as bad, provided I can find them!

The first story is about communities on Lake Erie are convincing people who own waterfront to make it available to the public.  What a great story!   https://reasonstobecheerful.world/this-lake-is-for-everyone/

I have several young adults in my extended family who have bern diagnosed with autism.

I have marveled at their and their family's journey through the complexities and challenges of these uncertain times after already spending decades raising,  teaching,  and supporting their chiidren.

Faced with challenges from their birth on, families have to battle lack of education and awareness in not only themselves but others.

It can often result in a steep learning curve and a life of explanations and requests for help and understanding.

It's challenging enough in daily life but often extremely so in public situations where outbursts are not uncommon not only from the child or young adult, but from the uneducated judgments of others..

Recently,  a family traveling on United Air learned that situations and judgments can be transformed  by the simplest of adjustments in protocols, acceptance of differences, and allowances for others and innate differences in all of us.

A young boy terrified and confused while being seatbelted on takeoff on a aur flight and his desperate parents forcibly trying to hold him down inborder to meet regulations of " all passengers must remain seated" had a their situation dramatically transformed  when a flight attendant suggested that the boy sit in his seatbelted father's lap and then sitting on the floor in the aisle until feeling more calmed

A simple story, similar things happen all the time everywhere we go or see  young children. But for many families in more complex situations,  it can often feel overwhelming.

But it was the note handed to the mother by an attendant as the passengers were leaving that touched that family's hearts and mine.

I had to enlarge the image to even read it but it read:

"I commend you for your strength. Do not EVER let anyone make you feel as though you are an inconvenience or a burden. He is a blessing. God bless your patience,  your love, your support, and your strength.  Continue to be superwoman. And know you and your family are loved and supported.  --United Family

I read this on a facebook page of a woman in Nigeria who creates beautiful fabric/fiber art. I thought of all of you.

"You are the daughters and sons of the most high God who founded the universe . The universe is set to celebrate you. Don't disappoint it. Start today and never stop."

Chef Jose Andres is once again leading a team from World Central Kitchen to feed those who are in need after a natural disaster. or man-made   He pre -stationed himself in the Bahamas and has already distributed thousands of healthy and freshly prepared meals to remote locations devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

They delivered nearly 4 million meals after Maria in PR, have delivered meals after many California wildfires, midwest flooding and Texas hurricanes.  This organization has only be responding to disasters for 2 years and has made such a difference in the lives of people who are most in need.

They often, as in the case of Maria in Puerto Rico, have remained and have tried to address the future agricultural needs of areas they have helped.  They have also trained future chefs in places like Haiti.

Please look at their website.  These light workers deserve our attention.  They can inspire us in ways we have never imagined.

This is such a fantastic story.

A young 4th grader was bullied after  making a homemade University of Tennessee shirt for College Color Days at his elementary school. When the University found out they send him a box of SWAG and turned his shirt design into an actual shirt which people can buy. Part of the  proceeds will go to an anti bullying foundation.

This is the best story.

A high school boy lifted a car off his neighbor after a jack had collapsed trapping the man .

I think that if a young man  can lift a 3,000 pound car,  then there is hope for solving the climate crisis.

His mother noticed that when he squatted down and positioned himself to lift the car off his trapped neighbor, he was concentrating. I would love to understand what was happening in his  mind that was focusing all strength on lifting that car. It is in that moment of concentration and intention that we perform miracles.

Did you all see Susan Rice on Rachel Maddow tonight? Wow! So strong, so smart, so focused and so hopeful. For those who didn't hear it, her message was essentially that it is our divisions over race, class, politics, gender, region, religion, points of view that make us vulnerable to international meddling.

But also that we created these divisions. We can fix them. Historically we have been through worse--civil war, civil rights era, McCarthyism, etc. and we have fixed things along the way that made us better and stronger. We can do this!

I plan to get her new book, Tough Love. :)

I wanted to share this with all of you. I smiled, laughed and cried (I do not have children of my own) but have several nieces and a beautiful god-daughter who I love with all my heart) but this little 3 year old boy has just stolen my heart. His daily affirmations (as he gets off the bus to go to school) says it all (his name is Ayann): "I am smart, I am blessed, I can do anything" made me smile and cry at the same time. I only wish I had said/or known what an affirmation was at 3 to 7 yrs old)

Blessings to you all and Ayann

That child is the cutest thing.  I can't stop smiling. One woman posted the video on twitter saying, "That's it!  I'm having kids!"

I am very glad to hear that the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for working toward peace and reconciliation with Eritrea.

I know a number of Eritrean families and they were so happy this summer with the peace developments.      Deep within their souls happy.  Many traveled back to their homeland to visit family members and to provide charitable services such as dental care to those in need.  I have discovered that the Eritrean people are some of the most kind, loving and intelligent people I have ever known.  Their culture is rich and interesting. I have attended 2 Eritrean weddings in the US as well and they were amazing.  Hundreds will show up, from states far and wide. They brew their own  special beer  and alcohol, and make tradition wedding foods.  It takes the family months to prepare the wedding feast.  And the dancing...OMG.  In both cases, they brought traditional fabric from Eritrea and made my children traditional celebration garments for the ceremony and reception.

Keep looking for wonderful news in the world.  It is there.

One of my predictions came true in a good way! My mom got a new job in social work, with the help of the job interviewer who actually pulled some strings to help her get this job! I believe he was the "Knight of Cups" I pulled coming to aid my mother. ?

She didn't get the job she applied for, but he helped her get a different one because he was impressed with her at the job interview. ?

We usually don’t think of economists as light workers but this married couple has helped millions of the poorest people in the world by figuring out the most effective ways to help them.

Harvard and MIT professors Duflo and Banerjee just received the Nobel Prize for their work. They’ve saved the lives of millions of children using simple studies.
