I am seeking wisdom about the situation we find ourselves in regarding the failed talks and the North Koreans' possible escalation of nuclear weapons. The issue has been concerning me since Trump was elected, and of course Trump has not disappointed in his ability to escalate this situation.

What do we know about the North Korean's capability at this point?

I think we've had scant visions in recent Read the Future nights about North Korea. Yes there were all kinds of fearful visions two years ago but they were more fear-based visions and subject to the bias that extreme fear can arouse.

I bring this subject up with the hope that we can meet this situation with strength, courage, and wisdom.  Any thoughts?

I think more disagreement went on behind closed doors than we were made aware of, hence the abrupt ending of trump/kim meeting. Something made kim mad and that's why news reports today are saying that he is now rebuilding his nuclear weapon sites.

Something tells me that the importance of previous presidents disdain for Kim was because the US knew a lot more than they shared with us on how dangerous this dictator is.. which is why I'm concerned with how cocky trump has been on this idea that he can "strike a deal" with Kim.

My overall feeling is not North Korea feeling brave enough to act alone, more so a feeling that a larger, more powerful country (ah hem) is backing them in secret...

For some reason though, I feel like a big shake up with the white house will happen soon that will make Kim feel less likely to be "reactive" ...at least for a few months. He doesn't look at the US as a whole, he thinks of the current president as the entire entity of America - since that's how he is represented in his own country.

Helpful post, thank-you, Perriwinkle.  Nicolas Kristof did a documentary on North Korean people and leaders for the New York Times a while back that I watched.  I didn't know what to make of it. I have great respect for Kristof.  Still didn't know how to wrap my head around it.

My best thought at the moment about it is that we must hold fast and send prayers of love to all involved.

On my intuitive side, I think that actually what happened was that the whole summit was a staged melodrama. I get the sense that Kim and Trump are in cahoots to boost their respective images in their home countries. I don't think there really were any arguments or unexpected discussions, I think none were ever planned. I think the videos of Kim having a cig right before the meeting was him showing stage nerves, not nerves of someone gearing up for a fight. I think he was focusing on making his performance look believable.

Now, on my knowledge side, I have been told by reliable sources that US intel knows that right now N Korea has missiles that can go kind of far, but they remain slower than our counter-missile missiles. Kim would know that too.

So back to my intuitive side, I think this is a lot of sturm und drang meant to scare the populaces of both countries to try to strong-arm support of these psychopaths. Add in that Twitler hates California, and it makes sense he'd want all of us here to be afraid of NK, it also is not unthinkable that he'd do something to trigger an attack on CA by NK so he can declare martial law.

What I can't seem to suss out is if their evil plans will succeed...

My intuitive side says Russia and China are behind NK. I too think T is in cahoots- but critical info has been held from him- and meant to exploit him ( and US) look the fool. He is easy to manipulate. But I don't feel a strike is imminent. I do feel we are 2 weeks to 2 months from rocket tests again.

Yes, it's important to remember that China always plays the long game. By long game I mean they look at things by centuries, a plan for 100 years down the road is normal for them.
