Agree about America’s huge hand.  Of course, someone like Donald Trump wouldn’t even know about it because he is so ignorant.

For anyone who wants to know more  about how our country created the very problems that cause refugees to need to pour into our country to escape poverty and violence, you might want to read the book Overthrow: Americas Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iran (2006) by NYTimes correspondent Stephen Kinzer.  It is helpful in understanding the way the us overthrew and controlled governments around the world during the 20th century, to profit private corporations

Kinzer lays out what we did in Central America as well as Iran to prevent these countries from having healthy democracies.  We did it in order to exploit their natural resources And enslave there are people. There  are likely newer books that cover more recent history on this issue But this book is excellent And giving you a perspective upon what is going on today.

I would agree with Vestralux that it is more of a refugee crisis.  It appears one we helped to create.  This situation needs the best minds working to come up with solutions and options.  Wish we have them in office. We can e so much more...

So true.  We break countries, create refugee crises, then refuse to take in the refugees.  We don't own the world, and we need leaders who recognize that.

Here is a different immigration story.

Hassan al- Kontar, a Syrian man who spent nearly seven months living in a Malaysian airport has been removed and placed in police custody October 1st.  Nobody has heard from him since.  He had been regularly updating social media on his plight while at the airport. He's been  in exile of Syria since 2011, because he refuses to join the Syrian military and could face potential arrest in Syria if returned.

I wonder where he is now and if he is safe?

In case people don't have time to read a whole book on the subject,  Here's an article (How American Policy in Honduras Created the Refugee Crisis by Ed Brayton, June 2018. ) that lays out where the blame for the current refugee crisis squarely lies.   I don't know the author, but I know that what he is saying is correct, that our country has prevented Honduras and other Central American countries from having healthy, economically strong  economies and stable governments  by destabilizing those countries' governments and propping up American-controlled leaders who favor American companies and oligarchs.  (BTW,This  is what Russia is trying to do to the U.S. right now.  It's a trick we've been doing to other countries for 120 years.)

If everyone in the U.S. understood the truth of the Central American refugees, we would not only let them all  in, but we'd pay them recompense to make up for what we did to them.

Trump pulled out of the International Coffee Agreement this summer.  That will hurt the coffee growers by destabilizing prices.  Not sure where he is going with that decision, but if people can no longer afford their coffee, it will get ugly.   That might even turn Republicans against him.😉

Just wanted to add to what others have said here that not only has direct American policy and covert action over the long-term harmed or directly toppled Central and South American governments, and either impinged their economic development or directly stunted it, but in the last several decades, the U.S. has directly supported the rise of cartel power through a clear and transactional relationship:

Annually, we buy multiple billions of dollars in their product and we sell them firearms and other munitions which the cartels use not just to protect their trade, but to dominate and terrorize their nations—including the infiltration and overthrow of police and local military forces.

This is all possible due to the virtual non-existence of American gun regulations (gun laws are stricter in Mexico than in the U.S.) and the vested power of the NRA within the GOP.

The "gun show loophole" and other tactics have made it feasible for Americans to remain within the law while shipping large quantities of weapons and ammunition over the border for profit. There's a great deal of expense and scrutiny paid to examining who and what is coming over the border into the U.S., but far less scrutiny is given to what is moving in the other direction.

Call me a cynic, but I image the upper echelon of the favored cartel of the year (led by a person who lives like a crown prince in any country) might be considered something of an unnamed investor interest for the NRA's stockholders.

Yes, gun makers are making serious coin south of the border.  Another thing that blew my mind was on Real Time with Bill Maher a couple months ago.  Adam Conover from the show Adam Ruins Everything was a guest.  He said that avocados from Mexico are financing the cartels.

Well this is unbelievable.

Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins, took immigration enforcement into his own hands, lurking in the bushes along the US southern border to “foil” an attempt by migrants to enter the country.

“We laid in the bushes in wait and we busted one of those smuggling operations,” Jenkins said in the Tuesday segment.

“We’ve been hiding in the bushes waiting to witness one of these crossings. Let’s go – they’re coming right now,” he said. “You can see they’ve come in, they’ve got a family on a raft.”

Yes, he did.

As thousands of migrants make their way north toward the United States, President Trump has threatened to end federal aid going to their home countries.

Together, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador received from the United States about $480 million in the last fiscal year for which complete data is available. The largest portion of that money (about 16 percent) went toward agricultural development.

But also high on the list was spending on more humanitarian-geared programs: Basic nutrition, civilian peace-building, security needs and legal development funds made up more than a quarter of the total aid.

Michele - Yes, yes, and important to remember that it was US meddling that set the stage for the violent conditions these folks are fleeing from.

Not that anyone thinks thousands are streaming over the border - but I can tell you personally that here near Tijuana, no one is getting across who shouldn't (and many who should are being turned away anyway). The "caravan" is still over a thousand miles away.

And all this talk of "embedded terrorists" drives me nuts, when it's clear that white male nationalists are up to no good, not these people....

Laura, thanks for all of that. It is pure absurdity being blasted out by so many loud trumpets.

Learning each day to work on my disgust and put out justice for the innocent as well as the guilty, instead!

This is new and interesting.

"Mexico has offered temporary work permits to migrants who register for asylum, as a big caravan of Central American migrants makes its way through the country toward the US.  The plan also envisages temporary ID cards, medical care and schooling.  But to qualify, migrants must remain in Mexico's southern Chiapas and Oaxaca states."

I wonder how much of this is due to the troops Trump said would be headed to the border?

Meanwhile, it looks like John Bolton and Trump would rather make a show of sending the military to the border rather than working with Mexico and the UN to set up refugee camps for the people who are trying to make it to safety - and they even managed to go around their own DHS to do it:  https://www.thedailybeast.com/bolton-kept-dhs-in-the-dark-in-his-push-to-seal-the-border-against-the-migrant-caravan

‘They don’t care about the wellbeing of the people or actually managing the situation. They just want to use it to pander to their followers.

Hi again,

i just found further information on Trump’s plans for the southern border:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-preparing-to-deliver-major-immigration-speech-just-days-before-midterms/2018/10/26/db474940-d94e-11e8-aeb7-ddcad4a0a54e_story.html?utm_term=.13d4a0d3539f

He wants to declare a national emergency and use executive orders as a political tool before the election to try to energize his base.

There is increasing evidence of  huge (of unknown origins),  viral attacks being propagated on many media and social media sites (especially Twitter) that the entire "Migrant Brigade" has been funded by liberal supporter, George Soros.

Within the last hour the hoax has exponentially increased with great anger and hatred directed at the migrants supposed malicious intent and Soros ever determined supposed plan to use this brigade to further supposed extreme measures once in America.

One tweet in particular is focusing on the extinction within 100 to 200 years of 50% of all conservatives by Soros' supposed plan.

Both Caesar Sayez (pipe bombs) and Robert D. Bowers, the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooter have been known and shown focus on Soros and his activities as a serious liberal danger . One of Sayek's pipe bombs was addressed to him, as well.

With the advent of Trumps comments on the huge migrant group advancing towards refuge through Mexico and wanting asylum and a home in the the U.S.during one recent rally,it has further increased its scope.

Focus on a symbolic blue light that is spreading goodness, peace and light surrounded by symbolic walls of protection or giant symbolic sandbags to keep the rushing flood waters filled with red herring out (and appearing to be red waters) out and away from the blue.

Trump trying to take birth right citizenship through executive order.  Just before the elections he announced this. Interesting.

I heard that on the early news and couldn't believe my ears!

Birthright Citizens (born in America) being stripped of citizenship of their constitutional rights by an Executive Order???

Link to the above. Always good to add to any news event for source identification

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is making another hardline immigration play in the final days before the midterm elections, declaring that he wants to order an end to the constitutional right to citizenship for babies born in the United States to non-citizens. Most scholars think he can’t implement such a change unilaterally.

With seven days to go before high-stakes elections that he has sought to focus on fearmongering over immigration, Trump made the comments to “Axios on HBO.” Trump, seeking to energize his supporters and help Republicans keep control of Congress, has stoked anxiety about a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the U.S.-Mexico border.

https://www.apnews.com/7bc17837af16492b81e1f3fff913e3e5

Everything is connecting. We have the Migrant Brigade and Trumps determination to bring it to a halt combined with his grasping at other ways of altering immigrant rights by seeking to deny birthright citizens of their rights (including voting) and potentially creating a constitutional conflict if not actual constitutional and seeking to emotionally charge mid-term elections voting with a hot button issue.

And to make things even more interesting create upset and consternation among those with dual citizenship or those vacationing here for the express purpose of giving birth (often in their last month's of pregnancy).

It was reported this morning that a number of Russian mothers have been living on Trump properties and giving birth to therefore dual citizenship babies .

If true,  no link yet, wondering if he thought of this or has a get around like he is currently plotting to avoid a conflict with specific countries,  nationalities or ways around the Constitution.  Or is he just adding fuel to all fires he apparently loves to start as be watches our nation and our rights and freedoms go up in flames?
