I'm devastated, my country is burning, my state is burning, Kangaroo Island is part of my state. Our political parties need to do better. Scott Morrison the PM has been absolutely shameful. The leader of the opposition/Labor party, Anthony Albanese has been ok, but he still doesn't have a good enough climate plan. The Greens leader Richard Di Natale has a great climate plan, similar to a Green New Deal, but he hasn't been active enough except for on social media. We need more help for people all over Australia.

I, too, have a connection to Australia. My daughter lives in Melbourne with her Aussie boyfriend. It is a terrible situation. Please, everyone, pray for an end to the terrible fires there.

@dcd2510, @lilinoe, @lovendures, @michele, @erkmen-savaskan, and everyone else who has posted here, your words give me solace. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well, and remain so. It is a long summer ahead for us. My hope is that we won't return to business as usual once events leave the headlines. I know that I won't.

This is strictly related to the Bushfires so I put it under  this topic heading.

Very sad news.  3 US firefights died fighting the fires when their water air tanker crashed and exploded.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was contracted through American aerial firefighting company, Coulson Aviation (USA).

The company has grounded their Large Air Tankers fleet as a precaution and as "a mark of respect".

The grounding of the water bombers by Coulson Aviation will have an immediate impact on aerial firefighting capacity, Mr Fitzsimmons said, but he understands their decision.

If anyone is interested in making a donation to aid the rescued animals in Australia, these are two reputable groups:  WIRES https://www.wires.org.au/ and WWF https://www.worldwildlife.org

if you would like to support the volunteer fire service in New South Wales, here’s the link: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/support-your-local-brigade

Finally some very good news.

Rain.

Torrential rain across the east coast of Australia has extinguished a third of the fires in the NSW region - and could put more out, officials say.

Sydney recorded its wettest day in over 15 months on Friday.

The heavy rains are predicted to continue until next week, providing relief to some drought and fire-ravaged zones.

Due to the heaviest amount of rain in 30 years, most of the bush fires have been extinguished.

I guess it is feast of famine because it is flooding now.

Scores of schools were temporarily closed by the Department of Education in New South Wales on Monday because of heavy flooding. The Bureau of Meteorology also issued a number of warnings for heavy rains, wind and further flooding on Monday.
New South Wales Rural Fire Service tweeted Monday, however, that the rains have helped to extinguish over 30 fires since Friday, describing it as the "most positive news we've had in some time." Some of these blazes have been burning for months.
